Falling Star

Tonight I saw a falling star, she fell so fast, she fell so hard

She fell into a sky so black, no turning ‘round, no going back

It made me think of love we shared, you let me in when no one cared

From Oklahoma, I had come

Hit the west coast, came undone

You had left a boy so very cruel

He used you up, you played the fool

The summer wind had come and gone

The autumn chill had just begun

I was sleeping in my car

The night was cold, the rain was hard

You took me into your room

You washed my face, you cleaned my wounds

In my life, I have few regrets

Except the way, I left Claudette

For my heart had turned to stone

My fever broke, and I went home

I found a girl to share my bed

Your letters came, but left unread

Tonight I saw a falling star,  she fell so fast, she fell so hard

I found a girl to share my name

The years passed by, the children came

More than 50 years have passed

Time moved on time went by fast

My wife asleep, in the other room

Autumn breeze, October  moon

Now I sit underneath the stars

And think of you... and wonder… where you are

Tonight I saw a falling star
